About Ponta Do Oura, Rules, Swim Points and the Resident Dolphins

The quaint town of Ponta do Oura is situated in Southern Mozambique just 10km from the South African border. The contrast between the rural and the majestic are what make this such an unforgettable and special destination.

In Ponta do Oura you will find the most beautiful beaches with white sand and crystal blue waters as well as dense dune forests, amazing diving and an ever stretching sea. It is just a stone throw away from Durban (450km) and 650 km from Johannesburg.

CURRENCY AND BANKING FACILITIES IN PONTA…
We regret we do not accept cheques in Mozambique so bring cash in Rands for spending money. Ponta has no banking facilities or ATM's. Rands are used and preferred in Ponta, rather than Dollars or Euros. Credit and debit cards can be used.

HOSPITALS AND MEDICAL…
There are no hospitals / chemists in Ponta; the closest hospital is in Manguzi, just outside the border on the South African side.

Rules and Swim Points:
There is a strict code of conduct and briefing before swimming with the dolphins which must be adhered to.
·        When the dolphins are located their behaviour is monitored before the interaction takes place. Their behavioural patterns are used to confirm whether they are sociable or not.
·          Only four to six participants are allowed in the water at one time.
·         The participants enter the water with a swim facilitator who is trained to swim with the dolphins in a manner that is not invasive.
·         When interacting with the dolphins there are no touching or sudden movements directly in front of or behind the dolphins.
·         The marine environment in Ponta is delicate and under constant threat which is why there needs to be awareness raised about constantly adhering to the rules and regulations to protect and conserve the environment.
·         Dolphins are incredible creatures and our interactions with them can produce a life changing experience which is why we need to respect and protect their habitat by putting these rules and procedures in place.
